Clive Denny

Qualifying in 1988 as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN), Clive initially worked as the Charge Nurse of a Rehabilitation Department in a large Victorian Hospital in South Wales.

In relocating to Cornwall in 1990 worked for two years as an Acute Community Mental Health Nurse; four years in a Crisis Intervention team; and for five years in Primary Care attached to a GP surgery in Truro. During this time he served as a nurse representative on Carrick Primary Care Group Board.

During the last eighteen months within Primary Care an interest in primary, integrated and collaborative care led to a secondment with Institute of Health Studies/University of Plymouth as a Primary Care Practice Leader facilitating the placement of pre-registration nursing students into primary care teams. Also developed a mental health primary care practice development programme; and working with a District Nurse colleague had the opportunity to create an integrated mental health/general health diploma module and a return to nursing practice programme. Maintained some clinical input into General Practice.

Clive is and honorary lecturer in mental health nursing with the Institute of Health Studies/University of Plymouth. Having undertaken a clinical leadership facilitators training programme with the Royal College of Nursing the other aspect of the dual role is to facilitate this personal/professional development programme for clinical leaders in Cornwall.
