Intended audience:
Teachers, Tutors, Lecturers, Pastoral Staff, Learning Support Managers, LSAs, Schools Liaison, Student Services, Inclusive Learning Managers and Co-ordinators; and all staff with responsibility under the Every Child Matters agenda
Focus:
In their inclusion report dated July 2006, OFSTED recognise that learners who have been on an alternative programme, attended a PRU, or have been home tutored, are at greater risk of underachieving at college or dropping out. With a national focus on inclusive education, high retention targets and the implications of The New Inspection Framework on Equality and Diversity, colleges must manage and support this group of learners effectively and need procedures in place to reduce the risk.
Teaching and support staff can become skilled at managing learners with BESD by adopting some simple classroom tactics to improve learner engagement and achievement.
This event will provide practical strategies and support procedures to help overcome the difficulties and obstacles to the successful transformation of learners with BESD into employable young adults.
The trainer for this event is Hilary Nunns who has many years’ experience and expertise in the area of learning support generally, and behavioural support specifically.
Purpose:
During this event you will:
- understand the different facets and complexities of learners with BESD
- investigate many calm classroom techniques
- tap into the mysteries of the school “alternative programme”
- devise meaningful ILPs and behavioural targets
- formulate a procedure for creating a support package
