Intended audience:
Staff who are new to the tutoring role including Personal Tutors, Student Mentors, Learning Coaches, Learning Support staff and all tutors wishing to enhance their ability to tutor students effectively.
Focus:
Tutoring is an essential function for staff in FE and 6th Form Colleges, Schools and Academies. It can mean the difference between either success and achievement or 'drop out' and failure for the student. The introduction of ILPs and Target Setting, the increase in 14 – 16 age group, tutorial observation and inspection, now requires even higher skill levels from tutors.
Failure to retain students and secure their achievement and progression has serious repercussions in terms of funding and survival. Increased pressure on staff time and resources means that the limited time available for tutoring must be used effectively to ensure student success.
This event provides tutors with practical skills and strategies to implement immediately with their students.
The trainer, Arnie Skelton has a wealth of experience to share and has been training tutors for over 15 years. He is co-author of the comprehensive tutoring packs “Take Tutoring” and "Our 96 Top Tutorial Activities.”

During this event you will:

- Clarify the boundaries and expectations between the tutor and the student
- Develop the key skills necessary for effective tutoring
