Bridging the Gap
Taking Learners from Level 2 to Level 3
Date: 10 Nov 2009 (1 day)
Location: Marriott Hotel Maida Vale, London
Publicity: Download publicity & programme (PDF)
Intended audience:
All Programme Managers, Curriculum Team Leaders, Lecturers, Teachers, Advanced Practitioners, Subject Learning Coaches, Staff Develoment Managers and those with responsibility for improving inspection grades.
Focus:
Many learners who achieve well at Level 2, have difficulty making the leap into Level 3 work: the transition between Level 2 and Level 3 can be much more challenging, for both learners and teachers, than that between Level 1 and Level 2.
In this activity based day we will look at the elements of learning, and what it is that characterises Level 3. This event will provide you with practical techniques to enable learners to make the transition to higher order tasks which are the basis of Level 3 work. You will have the opportunity to try out some activities designed to work across a broad subject range, which can help students to develop the skills they need for Level 3.
We will also investigate differentiation in more detail, and how we can apply what we know of differentiated learning at Levels 1 and 2, to more advanced work, and explore strategies which enable students to actively review their progress and evaluate their own achievement.
Purpose:
During this event you will:
- identify ways in which we can develop learners’ generic learning skills alongside their knowledge of subject content
- explore practical and imaginative ways to bridge the gap between Level 2 and Level 3
- try out a range of activities which encourage higher order thinking through active and multi-sensory approaches to Level 3 materials.
- consider practical differentiation strategies
- consider effective classroom practice to encourage student reflection and maximise learning
A full set of course materials will be provided for delegates to use in their own institutions.
