Practical Strategies for Teaching Students with SLDD in Mainstream Classes
Teaching for Difference
Intended audience:
Teachers, Tutors and Lecturers with students with a variety of disabilities and learning differences in their classes. SLDD and Learning Support Managers & Staff with responsibility for working with main stream staff to encourage inclusion.
Focus:
All tutors in the classroom are now required to make reasonable adjustment for students with learning differences. Individual learning plans require specific adjustments that must be interwoven into the curriculum for students with specific needs. The effective and timely delivery of the curriculum is also required and tutors may be overwhelmed by the variety of student needs in their class. As teachers attempt to grapple with understanding different learning requirements the effectiveness of good teaching practice is sometimes overlooked.
This course demystifies the multi sensory teaching approaches that have proved most effective for all learners. There are also plenty of practical suggestions for effective learning. It brings together current research and practical suggestions for classroom management of students with straight forward or diverse needs in mainstream classes.
It is becoming more evident as we learn more about the brain the inadequacy of finite labels for processing differences. This course breaks down specific learning differences providing suggestions for differentiated teaching that supports the needs of students across the curriculum.
This event is lead by Jo Todd, she is a nationally recognised expert and trainer in Learning Difference with a wealth of practical experience in the classroom.
