Functional Skills - Ensuring your Organisation is Ready to Deliver

Intended audience:

Managers, Co-ordinators & Teachers of key and functional skills. Staff involved in delivering literacy, numeracy and ICT on Work-Based Learning and Train to Gain programmes. All Staff who will be involved in teaching functional skills.

Focus:

The introduction of Functional Skills and the withdrawal of Key Skills over the next four years present exciting teaching opportunities and challenges for colleges, training providers and schools.

Colleges and training providers will be required to introduce models of teaching and learning that guarantee the effective delivery of Functional Skills within their own institution and which complement delivery models used by partner organisations and schools.

The event provides a clear and concise update on the Government agenda to introduce Functional Skills and identifies where the new qualifications fit within the Diploma framework. Through presentation and workshops delegates will review the Functional Skills standards for English, Maths and ICT and the proposed forms of assessment. They will explore the four suggested models for delivery of Functional Skills and discuss appropriate systems for delivery in their institutions/training environment.

Participants will also experience a range of tried and tested successful teaching and learning strategies to support the delivery of Key and Functional skills. You will identify how these techniques can be used to enhance Key Skills delivery during the transition process as the new qualifications are phased in.
