An Innovation in In-house Training
Intended audience:
All Staff
Focus:
This innovative approach to training, from Arnie Skelton and Matrix, is aimed at providing staff development in 'bite size chunks'.
There will be 6 1-hour sessions held during the day, each session covering a specific skill or topic area (see below). Staff have the choice of which session they attend, and how many.
It is up to each college/institution to nominate the issues, skills or topics they would like to see addressed – but the nomination must be manageable within the hour. There are no other constraints – there is no need for the day to be themed or group around similar topics (in fact there is a case for not doing this, so people are unlikely to want to go to all 6).
Some possible suggestions (this is just a starter list, anything could be nominated);
- Using learning styles in your classroom delivery
- The 4 keys to engaging students
- Taking a coaching approach to teaching
- An introduction to Emotional Intelligence
- An introduction to NLP
- Running a difficult personal tutorial
- The 6 keys to motivation

Purpose:
The objective is to give participants;
- an introductory ‘taster’ to a particular topic or skill area
- a top up on key skill or topic area
- access to handy hints and tips on a particular skill, issue or topic
- choices in terms of which sessions they attend, and how many
